Synopsis
Papua New Guinea is an extremely unusual and dangerous place to live.
But this did not deter the author from accepting a senior managerial position in Port Moresby. Living and working in guarded compounds, behind razor wire, may not be
everybody's lifestyle choice but the challenge and rewards this position offered were too good to turn down.
To actually become part of the local establishment, build up and manage a multi-million dollar project, was the challenge. In a small city where an average of five major
crimes were committed every day, life-threatening and dangerous situations were forever present.
This tale of unbelievable adventure, which exposes the most brutal side of Papua New Guinea, also takes the reader up through Asia and into the mysterious depths of the Indian
sub-continent.
The experiences the author preserved are now presented to you, the reader, to share in and be totally entertained by.
About The Author
Born in Whangarei New Zealand on April 26 1943, Graeme Clarke grew up on a small dairy farm. After qualifying as an
electrician in 1963, he worked his way up through the electrical industry in New Zealand and Australia until 1985. It was at this time that Graeme decided to pursue a
different career and have a break away from the pressures of the construction and contracting industry.
After three years of touring Australia as an itinerant entertainer and releasing two records, the top-ten song Tender Trap and the CD Footprints in the Sand at
Wallaroo, Graeme decided to return to the electrical industry, this time specialising in project management.
In 1995 Graeme accepted a managerial position in Papua New Guinea. Based in Port Moresby, he was charged with the task of managing the multi-million dollar electrical
refurbishment of Jacksons International Airport, travelling to Asia and India in the course of his employment.
Some years later, Graeme sat down in the quite and beautiful surroundings of his North Beach home and wrote a trilogy of books entitled Pacifica and Beyond, documenting
his many travels and colourful experiences.

From The Book
...On my way back I was coming over a rise at the Six Mile shops when I noticed a couple of PMV buses in front of me doing
u-turns and heading back up the hill. There were, as per usual, hundreds of people milling around, only this time they all seemed to be running in different directions.
I was about to stop when I heard some gunfire fairly close to me, on my right-hand side, so I made a split second decision. I rammed my car down into second gear and planted
my foot on the accelerator. I put my head down as low as I could while still being able to see where I was going. I then drove hell-for-leather down the hill and past the
ramshackle shops where I thought the gunfire was coming from.
I rounded the corner at the bottom of the hill still hearing the crack of gunfire. I didn't receive any hits and I was still not really sure of where the shots were actually
coming from.
Bloody madmen, I mumbled to myself as I drove back to my office, my heart pounding and my adrenalin running hot...
